Camp Report 2007
Our theme for this
camp was, “Life More Abundantly.” Our Bible studies explored different
aspects of John’s teachings.. There was a Bible study each morning that
divided according to age groups and an evening lesson all together. Then
at the end of the day we had a campfire singing and devotional. The
devotional was led by an older camper boy. They did a great job of
preparing their lessons and communicating to their peers.
This year we had a
pretty full camp. We had two available beds in boys cabins. Evenings in
the girls cabins brought another devotional time in which the girls cabins
combined to look at a few Biblical thoughts and say a prayer before going
to bed. The girl’s devotional time was led by a different counselor each
time.
Thursday night is a
favorite of the campers with the boys hiking up the mountain for their
lesson and the girls stay in camp for theirs. We never have enough time on
those nights. After the study the boys had their “talking stick” time and
the girls had a great time with loud music and the Sonlight dress up box.
We had five high
school seniors this year and three were Florida College bound. Each of
those going to FC were awarded a scholarship in the amount of $400. This
is a goal of the booster club to see more young people make the decision
to go to Florida College for the great atmosphere, Bible classes,
wholesome opportunities and lifelong friendships they can have there.
Our camp fun included
team sports, ropes course, mountain biking, wall climbing, the Wild West
Game, dodge ball, archery, and the perennial favorite shaving cream fight.
Our teams bonded beautifully with their cheer competition and the varied
relays and game throughout the week. We had a 50’s themed banquet this
year. Lots of participation in the dress up. Following the banquet we
had our annual talent show. The talent show was led by our fabulous FC
Friends. Our Friends this year were Kaitlin Taylor (admissions counselor),
Jared Acuff (multi-talented and high energy) and Emily King (a great
addition with her sweet nature and willing heart). We are so thankful for
the addition the Friends are to camp.
The Sonlight staff
continued to exemplify service to others and humility. They are such a
pleasure and a treasure for us. The food was plentiful and delicious. Our
counselors were of great service to the kids also. They came prepared with
evening entertainment and crazy Olympic games. The Bible studies and
devotionals were well prepared. Chad Hymel, Dennisa Cowley, DeWayne
Howell, Kim Howell, Craig and Tami Bean and Rob and Maureen Taylor were
the adult counselors. Thank you to Chad and Dennisa, for leaving home,
kids and spouse to help us. You did a great job!
We would like to thank
Craig and Tami for their talents that they share with all of us. Teaching,
singing, planning and often times winging it when the weather doesn’t
cooperate are a few of the gifts they have that we admire and appreciate.
Thank you for the examples you are to the campers and adults alike.
To the Booster Club:
Thank you for the work you are doing. Without the fundraising and
encouragement camp would not go on. Our Rocky Mountain Friends of Florida
College Booster Club (is it any wonder we refer to our group as RMFFC?)
has had a far reaching impact on the lives of so many young people. By
enabling the camp to go on children meet children of like faith, make
lasting friendships, become renewed in their faith, and learn in a way
that is unforgettable.
Rob and Maureen would
like to thank the booster club for the opportunity to be co-directors with
the Beans. It has been very rewarding and exciting.
