ABOUT US Why have a "Florida College" Camp in Colorado, and why have a "Florida College" Booster Club? Florida College ("FC") Camp in Colorado began as the result of a phone call in late 1994. "We would like to begin a Florida College camp in Colorado," FC alumnus Selena Lungstrum said in a phone call to Ralph Walker, Florida College Director of Public Relations and Alumni Affairs. Selena and her FC alumnus husband Carl had taken their children out-of-state to FC Camp in Arizona, and believed a facility near their home in Pagosa Springs would be an excellent site, and closer for many FC alumni families in the Rocky Mountain area. "This facility, Sonlight Christian Camp," Selena explained," is nested in the breathtaking Rockies, and is staffed by a crew who refuses to compromise their quality in safety, cleanliness, and meals." Director Walker told Selena that in order to have an FC camp, a local FC booster club, which would oversee the camp, must be formed. Walker recommended FC alumni Craig and Tami Bean of the Denver area as prospects who might help form a booster club. The rest is history! The RMFFC Booster Club. The Bean's responded favorably to the idea of an FC booster club and found that many FC alumni and others in Colorado were interested in Florida College, because of the spiritual and educational opportunities it provides for youth. The club was quickly chartered, and named, "Rocky Mountain Friends of Florida College" (RMFFC). The primary goal of the newly formed club was to sponsor an FC camp. Additionally, the RMFFC Booster Club encourages youth to attend Florida College. Club membership is welcomed at the cost of $20.00 per family. Booster Club Membership and Benefits The RMFFC Camp. The RMFFC Booster Club appointed the Lungstrum's as directors of the RMFFC Camp. The Lungstrum's emphasized the primary purpose for the camp was to provide a youth camp where leadership would encourage conduct which pleases God, and where children could form friendships which would continue through life. Additionally campers would be introduced to Florida College. With a great deal of enthusiasm Camp 1995 was launched. With an energetic staff of parents, young adults, and the "Friends" sent by Florida College. RMFFC continues to offer youth opportunities of spiritual growth and godly associations. The Lungstrum's passed the torch (resigned) after 11 years of directing camp. Current Directors. In 2005 RMFFC appointed Rob & Maureen Taylor and Craig & Tami Bean as co-directors of camp 2006. The Booster Club and the Camp continue to eagerly and fervently serve youth and Florida College. Many of the campers have continued their education at Florida College (www.flcoll.edu), but whether they have or not, they have filled one week of their summers with solid friendships, spiritual nurturing, addressing challenges, and exploring memorable insights to relationships and environment. --RMFFC
